John Nance Garner IV became the Vice-President in this election.

1964 - At the age of 70 years old, Lottie was alive when on June 11th, activist Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment in South Africa for conspiring to overthrow the state (because of his numerous anti-apartheid activities). He served 27 years in prison.

The South Vietnamese and US troops held off the offensive but it was such fierce fighting that the U.S. public began to turn against the war.
