Did you know?
In 1905, in the year that Lucy Sutera was born, the first movie theater opened in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the first theater to show nothing but movies - silent films. Two men, John P. Harris and his brother-in-law Harry Davis, opened the Nickelodeon on Smithfield Street - charging 5 cents for admission. The first day, 450 people watched movies at the new theater - on the second day, more than 1500 people stood in line to get in.
Did you know?
In 1912, Lucy was merely 7 years old when the RMS Titanic sank in April. The RMS Titanic was a British built and run passenger liner that was billed as "unsinkable." On its maiden voyage from Southampton England to New York City, carrying about 2,224 passengers and crew - from the wealthiest people in the world to poor emigrants from Europe, the Titanic hit an iceberg. Five of her watertight compartments failed but she was designed to survive only 4 being flooded. She began to sink. There were only enough lifeboats for about half of the passengers so over 1,000 remained behind while "women and children first" were loaded. Over 1500 died, making it the largest maritime disaster in modern history.

Do You Know These Pioneers Of Modern Day Entertainment?
Entertainers didn't always have to be handsome or pretty, they didn't have to sing or dance or act, heck, we didn't even have to know their names! Today, entertainers are celebrities. But in the past, the focus was simply about the story and what made our hearts sing, laugh, or cry. Remembering some of the some of the pioneers we have to thank for modern day entertainment.
