In 1945, in the year that Madelyn Mcdonald was born, on May 8th, World War II in Europe ended when Germany surrendered. Hitler had committed suicide a week before.

In 1959, when she was just 14 years old, on January 3rd, Alaska became the 49th state of the United States and the first state not a part of the contiguous United States. The flag was changed to display 49 stars.

In 1960, at the age of only 15 years old, Madelyn was alive when on September 26th, the first televised debate for a Presidential campaign in the United States - Kennedy vs Nixon - was held. Seventy million people watched the debate on TV. The debate pre-empted the very popular Andy Griffith Show.

In 1987, Madelyn was 42 years old when was the first time that a criminal in the United States - a serial rapist - was convicted through the use of DNA evidence.

In 1992, by the time she was 47 years old, in April, Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia. The newly created Bosnian Serb army then began a campaign against Muslim Bosniaks and Bosnian Croats - killing, raping, torturing, beating and robbing - and resulting in the deaths of over 100,000.
