In 1820, in the year that Margaret Mcdonald was born, on January 29th, George IV ascended the British throne when his father, George III (after 59 years on the throne), died. George III - King of England during the Revolutionary War - had been mentally ill and George IV had been Prince Regent since 1811, ruling in his father's stead.

In 1831, when she was just 11 years old, around July 15th, the volcanic island of Graham Island briefly emerged in the Mediterranean Sea. The island was discovered by Humphrey Fleming Senhouse, a British sea captain, on August 1st and claimed by the United Kingdom. The island still exists but is now once again underwater.

In 1853, when she was 33 years old, in May, Levi Strauss & Co. was founded in San Francisco. In the 1870's, the company began manufacturing denim overalls and their first pair of Levis 501 jeans were introduced in the 1890s.

In 1883, Margaret was 63 years old when on February 28th, in Boston MA, the first vaudeville theater was opened by Benjamin Franklin Keith.

In 1891, in the year of Margaret Mcdonald's passing, from March 9th through the 12th, a blizzard hit the south and west of England. Called the Great Blizzard of 1891, it led to snow drifts of up to 15 feet and killed 200 people and 6,000 animals. Fourteen ships sank.
