Margaret Patrick Hamilton passed away in 1959 in Mont, Australia at 84 years old. She was born in 1875. She was born to William Hamilton and Elizabeth Tryer Hamilton.

In 1875, in the year that Margaret Patrick Hamilton was born, on February 21st, Jeanne Calment was born in southern France. Her father was a shipbuilder and her mother was from a family of millers. She died August 4th, 1997 of natural causes - the world's oldest documented person to have ever lived - at the age of 122 years and 164 days.

In 1885, she was merely 10 years old when Germany's Karl Benz built the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which had an internal combustion engine. It is considered to be the world's first automobile. The Benz cost $150 - just under $4,000 in today's money.

In 1915, by the time she was 40 years old, The Birth of a Nation opened in February. A silent film, it was the most ambitious film to date and is considered a classic. Three hours long, it starred Lillian Gish and was directed by D. W. Griffith. The movie was based on the book The Clansman and told the story of two families (one pro-Union and one pro-Confederate) and their relationship during the Civil War and Reconstruction. The KKK was shown as "a heroic force".

In 1945, when she was 70 years old, on April 12th, President Roosevelt died of natural causes and Harry S. Truman, his Vice-President, became the 33rd President of the United States.

In 1959, in the year of Margaret Patrick Hamilton's passing, on August 8th, Hawaii became the 50th state of the United States. The US flag was changed to show 50 stars.
