In 1830, in the year that Mary A Cline Cline-Strickler was born, on March 26th, The Book of Mormon was published in Palmyra, New York by Joseph Smith, Jr. The full title was "The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi". According to Smith, the angel Moroni appeared to him when he was 17 and told him where to find golden tablets that told the story of a people who migrated from Jerusalem to the Americas. He transcribed the tablets, which became the Book of Mormon.

In 1841, on Sunday, June 6th, the United Kingdom conducted a census, the first British census to record the names and ages in every household and to be done nationally at a set time. A few days before the census, forms were delivered to each home and they were picked up on the morning of the 7th.

In 1896, in April, the first study on global warming due to CO2 - carbon dioxide - in the atmosphere was published by Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius. Arrhenius concluded that human activity due to the Industrial Revolution would amplify CO2 in the atmosphere, causing a greenhouse effect. His conclusions have been extensively tested in the ensuing 100+ years and are still seen to hold true.

In 1948, on May 14th, the State of Israel was proclaimed by David Ben-Gurion, who became Israel's first Premier, and the U.S. officially recognized Israel. That evening, Egypt launched an air assault on Israel.

In 1999, the fear that Y2K (year 2000) would cause the failure of computers worldwide when clocks didn't properly update to January 1st, 2000 became near panic. While some computer systems and software did have problems, the panic was unfounded and computer life went on.
