Mary Cox died in 1907 in Melbourne East, Australia at 46 years old. She was born in 1861. She was born to Mcgrath William Cox and Ellen Heffernan Cox.

In 1861, in the year that Mary Cox was born, The Royal Seminary (Sweden) became the first institute of its kind in Sweden to be open to women, allowing women to obtain a teaching degree.

In 1872, when she was merely 11 years old, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.

In 1881, she was 20 years old when on March 4th, James A. Garfield became the 20th President of the United States. On July 2nd, he was shot by Charles Guiteau, a lawyer, in Washington, D.C. The wound became infected and Garfield died on September 19. Vice President Chester A. Arthur immediately became the 21st President.

In 1891, she was 30 years old when on March 14th, a lynch mob stormed the Old Parish Prison. The mob lynched 11 of the 19 Italians who were arrested for - but found to be innocent of - the murder of New Orleans Police Chief David Hennessy.

In 1907, in the year of Mary Cox's passing, the state of Oklahoma was admitted to the United States on November 16. Previously called "Oklahoma Territory" and "Indian Territory", the two areas were merged and Oklahoma became the 46th state. It is the 28th most populous state.
