President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.

1936 - At the age of just 3 years old, Mary was alive when on November 2nd, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) debuted the world's first regular high-definition television service. This cleared the way for approximately 120,000 men, women, and children of Japanese ancestry to be evicted from the West Coast and to be held in concentration camps and other confinement sites across the country. In Hawaii, a few thousand were detained. German and Italian Americans in the U.S. were also confined.

1946 - When she was only 13 years old, on July 4th, the Philippines gained independence from the United States. In 1964, Independence Day in the Philippines was moved from July 4th to June 12th at the insistence of nationalists and historians.

1985 - In the year of Mary Samarrippas's passing, in May, a paper published in Nature by three British scientists reported that a huge hole was discovered in the ozone layer over the Antarctic. It was much larger than expected and is due to the use of manmade chemicals.
