    Merle L. Parker was born to Thomas Ray Parker (1891 - 1943) and Nell Ivett Farnsworth (1892 - 1932). Both parents were born in Nebraska. He had seven siblings: two sisters and five brothers. Merle L. Parker married Velda Parker and was married to her when he died in 1972. In the 1940 federal census, Merle Parker reported that he was divorced. He was survived by a son, Jimmie Ray Parker and a step-son, Gregory Bryan. On his World War II draft card, Merle was described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall and as weighing 165 pounds. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a "light" complexion.

    MERLE PARKER Private family services were conducted today at Lawncrest Memorial Cemetery for Merle "Jim" Parker, 59, of Redding, who died early this morning in his home. He was born March 24, 1913 in Nebraska. He had been a resident of Shasta County for 16 years and was a representative for PG&E in Central Valley. He was a member of the Lions Club in Central Valley, and a veteran of World War II. Parker leaves his wife, Mrs. Velda Parker of Central Valley; a son Jimmie Ray Parker of Central Valley; a son Jimmie Ray Parker of Hayward; a step-son, Gregory Bryan of Central Valley. He also leaves one granddaughter and seven brothers and sisters. The family requests that contributions be made to a favorite charity. Military honors were provided by the American Legion. - Record Searchlight (Redding, California) Thursday, November 2, 1972 on page 21.
