Oswald turned down a professorship at Yale so he could teach at a Lutheran college. He, his brother Alfred, and son William spent many family gatherings discussing and debating theology. His father was a Lutheran minister.
Professional Career

Oswald was a professor of mathematics and physics at Concordia college in St.Paul, MN. He also was dean of students, and curator of the Museum there.
Personal Life & Family

Oswald spent much of his time on school work; designing and building teaching models, grading papers, setting curriculum, and he built many of the museums display cases. He was also curious about mechanical things, he took the engine out of his first car, took it apart to se how it worked, then reassembled it and put it back in the car in time to go visit family in upstate Wisconsin. He also enjoyed playing the piano and was a concert quality player. He also enjoyed playing Scrabble and as he played many games with his wife, who had bed a school teacher, the Websters unabridged dictionary was always close at hand for those inevitable disagreements about word reality and proper spelling.
