In 1849, in the year that Pauline Turner was born, on February 14th, President James Polk had his photograph taken in New York City. He was the first President to have his photo taken.

In 1850, at the age of only 1 year old, Pauline was alive when on March 19th, American Express was started as an express mail service. Henry Wells & William Fargo joined forces - each had a delivery service - to found the company. At the beginning, express delivery in New York was virtually monopolized by American Express - which is now a financial services company.

In 1879, at the age of 30 years old, Pauline was alive when on April 26th, the National Park - later renamed the Royal National Park - the 2nd oldest national park in the world, was formally proclaimed in New South Wales, Australia. It was the first park to have the word "national" in its name.

In 1883, she was 34 years old when on February 28th, in Boston MA, the first vaudeville theater was opened by Benjamin Franklin Keith.

In 1921, in the year of Pauline Turner's passing, the silent film The Sheik, directed by George Melford and starring Rudolph Valentino and Agnes Ayres (also featuring Adolphe Menjou) debuted on October 21st. Critics weren't enthusiastic but the public loved it - in the first few weeks 125,000 people had seen the movie - and it eventually exceeded $1 million in ticket sales. And Rudolph Valentino, an Italian American, became the heartthrob of a female generation.
