As the name suggests, the Fair was suggested as a way to celebrate the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.

1948 - Pinkie was 44 years old when on May 14th, the State of Israel was proclaimed by David Ben-Gurion, who became Israel's first Premier, and the U.S. officially recognized Israel. That evening, Egypt launched an air assault on Israel.
