In 1801, she was 71 years old when on January 1st, after a brief period of independence, Ireland was merged with Great Britain, creating The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

In 1804, at the age of 74 years old, Rachel was alive when on July 11th, Alexander Hamilton, former Secretary of the Treasury, and Aaron Burr, Vice President of the United States, fought a duel. Alexander Hamilton was shot and died the next day. Burr was indicted for murder and was acquitted but his political career was ruined.

In 1806, at the age of 76 years old, Rachel was alive when on May 30th, Andrew Jackson killed Charles Dickinson in a duel. Dickinson accused Jackson of cheating on a bet, then insulted his wife Rachel - accusing her of bigamy. Although Dickinson had the first shot - and hit Jackson in the chest, near his heart - Jackson shot (maybe twice, which would have been illegal) and killed Dickinson. Although it is thought that Jackson fought anywhere from 5 to 100 duels (he had a bad temper), he won a run for President in 1829.

In 1807, when she was 77 years old, on August 17th, the Clermont - Robert Fulton's steamboat - made the first successful steamboat trip on the Hudson River between New York City and Albany. The boat ran at an average of 5 miles per hour.

In 1809, in the year of Rachel Burnham's passing, on December 30th, Boston Massachusetts banned the wearing of masks at balls. Boston was following many other places - including England - by banning masked balls, which were considered to contribute to loose morals. After all, with masks, you couldn't tell the class of the person or even their gender! The law was extended in 1849 and repealed in 1963.
