In 1840, in the year that Rose Mclaughlin was born, on July 23rd, Upper Canada and Lower Canada were merged by the British Parliament, creating the United Province of Canada. This area later became the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
In 1850, Rose was just 10 years old when on April 4th, the city of Los Angeles - now the 2nd most populous city in the US - was incorporated. On April 15th, the city of San Francisco - now the 15h most populous city in the US - was incorporated. Both cities were incorporated before California became a state.
In 1857, at the age of 17 years old, Rose was alive when on October 13th, New York banks closed due to the Panic of 1857. The banks didn't reopen until December 12th.
In 1866, in the year of Rose Mclaughlin's passing, on February 13th, the first robbery committed by Jesse James and his gang - a daylight bank robbery - occurred in Liberty, Missouri. Jesse's presence has been disputed but most historians agree that he was there.
