1902 - In the year that Russell v Boyle was born, the Bureau of the Census was established. 1935 - At the age of 33 years old, Russell was alive when on September 8th, Louisiana Senator Huey Long was shot by Dr. Carl Weiss. He was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics (and probably gained power through multiple criminal acts). 1994 - When he was 92 years old, on May 6th, former political prisoner, lawyer, and activist Nelson Mandela was elected the first black President of South Africa. He was 75 when he was elected and he served one five-year term.

1997 - In the year of Russell v Boyle's passing, on July 1st, Hong Kong was returned to China. In 1898, Great Britain was awarded Hong Kong for 99 years. In a subsequent agreement, China agreed to allow Hong Kong to remain capitalist. So the handing over of the area ended British rule but did not change the economic system of Hong Kong.
