Samuel Stewart died in 1881 in Lara, Australia at age 68. He was born in 1813. He was born to Thomas Stewart and Ann Campbell Stewart.

In 1813, in the year that Samuel Stewart was born, on March 4th, President James Madison was inaugurated to his second term. Madison received 50.4% of the vote, defeating rival DeWitt Clinton.

In 1821, he was just 8 years old when on March 5th, President James Monroe was sworn in for his second term. Because March 4th - the day that the inauguration was supposed to be held - was a Sunday, Monroe moved it to Monday, the 5th. Also, the swearing in was held indoors because of a snowstorm.

In 1832, at the age of 19 years old, Samuel was alive when on November 14th, Charles Carroll - the last surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence - died at his home in Maryland. He was 95 years old. He signed the Declaration as "Charles Carroll of Carrollton", distinguishing him from several other Charles Carroll's who were living in the area at the time.

In 1851, at the age of 38 years old, Samuel was alive when on April 28th, Santa Clara College - now Santa Clara University - was chartered. A private Jesuit college, it has remained in the same location for over 165 years. Originally all students were men but women were admitted in 1961.

In 1881, in the year of Samuel Stewart's passing, on April 28th, Billy the Kid escaped from the Lincoln County Jail in New Mexico. He killed James Bell and Robert Ollinger in the escape and then stole a horse and rode out of town. On July 14th, Pat Garrett shot and killed Billy the Kid in Billy's friend's home near Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
