In 1812, at the age of 24 years old, Sarah was alive when on February 27th, the English poet Lord Byron gave his first address as a member of the British House of Lords. He spoke in defense of the Luddite violence against industrialism in his home county of Nottinghamshire. Luddites were primarily textile workers and weavers who thought that machinery was being used as a way to keep workers from achieving fair practices and wages.

In 1836, Sarah was 48 years old when on June 15th, Arkansas was the 25th state admitted into the United States of America - and the 13th slave state in the Union. In 1847, she was 59 years old when on July 1st, the first official postage stamps were issued in the US (not in the world - that was the UK). They were a nickel and a dime and showed Ben Franklin and George Washington.

In 1857, by the time she was 69 years old, on October 13th, New York banks closed due to the Panic of 1857. The banks didn't reopen until December 12th.
