    Sister Amadeus attended Scranton City Schools and graduated from Scranton Technical H.S. in 1937. She attended Boston College and received her baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education from Marywood University cum laude with a minor in Religious Studies. A life-long learner, she later furthered her education with classes in Theology and Business Administration.

    Sister Amadeus began her teaching career in elementary education and catechism preparation at the St. Vincent de Paul Church parish school in Girardville, Pa. where she retained the role of teacher of religion, grade-school teacher and principle. She was an excellent instructor and her students remembered her fondly throughout their lives. Her subsequent assignments were stationed not only in Pennsylvania but in Massachusetts and Connecticut also. Within the congregation,Sr. Amadeus held positions of director of novice, director of retreats, Mother Superior, member of the General Council, and Administrator of St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home in Elmhurst, Pa. During her position at the Villa, she co-ordinated the very successful annual fund-raising picnics on the Lake. She was creative and innovative as seen in various programs such as one-day bus trips to theater, dinners, and popular tourist areas for the residents with Carl Yanowski. Everyone loved it. She celebrated her 75th Jubilee in September 2010. In her later years, Sr. Amadeus continued her activities through outreach work.

    Sister Amadeus was the daughter of the late Anthony and Louise Peredney Barkauskas. Attracted to religious life, she joined the Order at their Motherhouse in Elmhurst. Pa. Before Sister took her final vows, she was given three names to select from and chose Amadeus 1X of Savoy (1435 - 1472), a saint known for his charity and concern for the poor and suffering. From then on her "Feast Day" became her birthday and was celebrated on March 30. Always ready for a good game of softball, Sr. Amadeus excelled in pitching. She was famous for no-hitter games on the Convent grounds. Sister was predeceased by two brothers, Dominick and Charles; two sisters, Domacella and Ann; and nephew Charles Reina. She is survived by nieces, nephews, large extended family, and will be greatly missed by all the members of her Congregation. Funeral arrangements: Calling hours: Sun., Mar. 6 3 - 6 p.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, 261 Thatcher St. Brockton, Ma. Funeral Mass Mon., Mar 7 at 10:30a.m. in the Convent Chapel and burial at the Convent Cemetery.
