Teresa Ann Leoni (died 1963)

In 1828, on September 17th, a typhoon - called the Siebold Typhoon because German physician Philipp Franz von Siebold was there and took measurements during the storm - killed over 14,000 people in Kyūshū, Japan. It was the greatest number of deaths in any storm in Japan.

In 1831, on November 7th, slave trading was forbidden in Brazil. Purchasing slaves had begun under Portuguese rule in the mid-16th century - slaves were used on sugarcane plantations. It wasn't until 1888, however, that slavery was totally abolished.

In 1856, on May 21st, Lawrence Kansas was ransacked and burned by pro-slavery forces. Called the "Sacking of Lawrence", it was part of the "Bleeding Kansas" war between pro-slavery and antislavery settlers.

In 1870, on January 26th, the state of Virginia rejoined the Union. On February 23rd, Mississippi was readmitted to the Union. On March 30th, Texas was readmitted to the Union. And on July 15th, Georgia became the last Confederate state to be readmitted to the Union.

In 1963, in the year of Teresa Ann Leoni's passing, the British Secretary of War, 46 year old John Profumo ,was forced to resign when he lied about an affair with 19 year old Christine Keeler. Keeler was also involved with the Soviet naval attaché and charges of espionage were feared. No proof of spying was ever found.
