1813 - In the year that Thad Williams was born, on March 29th, in the Mexican War of Independence, the Battle of Rosillo Creek took place. The Republican Army of the North defeated the Spanish Royalist Army in present-day Bexar County, Texas. On April 1st, the Royalists surrendered to the Republican Army. On April 6th, the Republican Army issued a draft declaration of independence.

1828 - He was only 15 years old when Hungarian inventor and physicist, Ányos Jedlik - a Benedictine priest - created the world's first electric motor, which he called an electromotor. Currently, the motor still works.

1858 - He was 45 years old when on October 28th, Macy's department store opened in New York City. Founded by Rowland Hussey Macy, it was at first a dry goods store - essentially a store that sold textiles, ready-to-wear clothing, and sundries

1880 - By the time he was 67 years old, on February 2nd the city of Wabash, Indiana became the third city in the world to be lit by electricity.

1900 - In the year of Thad Williams's passing, the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.
