In 1900, he was just 11 years old when the unemployment rate in the U.S. was 5.0% and the cost of a first-class stamp was $0.02. 31% of all workers were employed in the public service sector, 19% of women were employed (1 percent of all lawyers and 6 percent of physicians were women), 6% of the workforce were children, and 14% of the workforce was "non-white."

In 1933, he was 44 years old when Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.

An invasion on mainland Japan had been planned but President Truman ordered the bombs dropped instead.
