Versell Elvin Tuttle in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in the early 1940's. He was born in Kentucky in 1922 but he also lived in both Michigan and Ohio. He lived in Ohio when he entered into the military. He was the son of Charles "Charlie" Tuttle and Lula McCracken. He married Beulah Parsley in the 1940's. His second wife's name was Evelyn. An ancestry website has the information that Versell enlisted on November 12, 1942 at the Patterson Field in Fairfield, Butler County, Ohio but his military information in Butler County, Ohio says that he enlisted in the city of Hamilton.

His stepmother's name was Edna. His paternal grandparents were William and Louisa (Jones) Tuttle. His maternal grandparents were John Jerome "J.J." and Eliza F.(McWhorter) McCracken. Versell was married to Beulah F. Parsley when this photo was taken. Versell and his mother were living with his mother's parents in the 1930 census. Versell and his mother's names are spelled incorrectly on his birth record (found on Ancestry.com). Their names are spelled as Virsal and Lulla.

Lula Frances (McCracken) Tuttle Cornett and her son, Versell Elvin Tuttle in the 1920's in probably Laurel County, Kentucky. Lula was born in 1901 in Laurel County, Kentucky. She was the daughter John Jerome "J.J." McCracken and second wife, Eliza McWhorter. Versell was born in 1922 in Kentucky. His father was Charlie Tuttle. Lula died in 1991 in Oxford, Butler County, Ohio. Versell died in 1993 in Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio. Lula and Versell's names are spelled incorrectly on Versell's birth record (found on the Ancestry website). Their names were spelled as Lulla and Virsal. Lula's great great grandfather, John McCracken (an Attorney at Law)in Tennessee and her great great great grandfather, John McWhorter in Union, South Carolina owned black slaves but their descendants did not continue to own slaves. Lula's uncles, James and Thomas McCracken were in the Union (Federal) Army (Ky and TN) fighting for the north during the Civil War. Her father was still a child during the war. Lula's great great great grandfather, John McCracken and other men were ambushed and killed by Indians (Native Americans) in Pennsylvania in 1757. He was still a young man with a wife and children.

My paternal grandparents, Beulah Fae (Parsley) and Versell Elvin Tuttle in about the late 1940's. Beulah was born in 1927 in London, Laurel County, Kentucky, the daughter of Ruth (Bowling) and Charlie Parsley. Versell was born in 1922 in Laurel County, Kentucky, the son of Lula (McCracken) and Charles "Charlie" Tuttle. They also lived in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan and Hamilton, Butler County, Ohio. This photo was shared by Cheryl, the granddaughter of Laura (Tuttle) Brock [Versell's aunt]. Beulah and Versell both claimed to have a Native American "Indian" (Cherokee?) ancestor but I have been unable to find it yet on their ancestral charts. Beulah's second husband's name was Odis Caudle. Versell also married a second time.

Versell's parents were Lula McCracken and Charles Tuttle. Versell was married to my grandmother, Beulah Parsley. Eliza's husband (and Versell's grandfather) was John Jerome "J.J." McCracken. Her parents were William McWhorter (the son of Jesse McWhorter and Lucinda Benge) and Jane Ann Cloyd.
