Walter Thomas Holdaway 1875 - 1947

Walter Holdaway was born in 1875 to James Walter Holdaway and Lucy Annie (Roberts) Holdaway, and had siblings Arthur John Holdaway, Charles Holdaway, Frank Richard Holdaway, Frederick Holdaway, Edith May (Holdaway) Back, and William James Holdaway. He married Hermina Siona (Stiefvater) Holdaway, and had children Walter E. v. Holdaway and Maurice Edmund Holdaway. Walter Holdaway died at age 71 years old on November 14, 1947.

In 1875, in the year that Walter Thomas Holdaway was born, on February 18th, the Mason County War, also called the Hoodoo War, began. In central Texas, a German-American mob broke into a jail with a battering ram and lynched two suspected cattle rustlers. Thus began a year of vigilante "justice."
Did you know?
In 1895, by the time he was 20 years old, on March 15th, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Michael Cleary killed his wife of 8 years, Bridget, and burned her body. His defense was that his "wife" was a changeling that was left in his real wife's place when she was abducted by fairies. He was nonetheless convicted and imprisoned for manslaughter. He spent 15 years in prison.
