William Hutson of Pyalong, Victoria Australia was born in 1827. He was married to Mary Ann (Bryant) Hutson in August 1848 in Falmer, East Sussex, Brighton and Hove County, England United Kingdom, and they were together until death separated them. He had children Henry Peter Hutson, James Thomas Hutson, William Hutson, and Louisa (Hutson) Bain. William Hutson died at age 74 years old on May 3, 1902 in Pyalong, Mitchell Shire County, VIC, and was buried at Pyalong Cemetery, Seymour-Pyalong Road, in Pyalong.

In 1827, in the year that William Hutson was born, on May 25th, Romanian inventor Petrache Poenaru received a French patent for the invention of the first fountain pen with a replaceable ink cartridge. The fountain pen would make inkwells obsolete. Poenaru's patent used a barrel made from a large swan quill (part of the feather).

In 1831, William was just 4 years old when around July 15th, the volcanic island of Graham Island briefly emerged in the Mediterranean Sea. The island was discovered by Humphrey Fleming Senhouse, a British sea captain, on August 1st and claimed by the United Kingdom. The island still exists but is now once again underwater.
