He married Amy Ann (Wiffen) Thwaites in 1890, and had children Edith Amy Thwaites, Daphne May Thwaites, Stanley William Thwaites, Eivion Anne Thwaites, Wesley Albert Arnold Thwaites, William Eric Thwaites, Laurie Thomas Victor Thwaites, Dorothy Amy Thwaites, Kenneth William Thwaites, and Winifred Thwaites. William Thwaites died at age 61 years old on September 9, 1929 in Bentleigh, City of Glen Eira County.
