He was married to Elizabeth Ann (Dyson) Williamson in 1885, and had children Marion Williamson, John Dyson Williamson, Hilda Williamson, Bessie Williamson, Walter Williamson, May Lillian Williamson, and Algernon Raymond Williamson. William Williamson died at age 85 years old on August 3, 1944 in Williamstown, City of Hobsons Bay County.

In 1859, in the year that William Williamson was born, on October 16th, abolitionist John Brown led a raid on Harpers Ferry Armory in Harper's Ferry, Virginia, in an attempt to start a slave rebellion. He wanted to "liberate" the guns in the armory and arm slaves. Brown was captured and hanged on December 2nd.

In 1865, by the time he was only 6 years old, on January 31st, the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was narrowly passed by the House (it was passed by the Senate over nine months earlier). The 13th Amendment outlawed slavery and involuntary servitude - the exception being for punishment for a crime.
