Highlights of just a few of the many successes of sharing memories within the AncientFaces Community. 1929 Disney Halloween Skeleton Dance Cartoon
Although this cartoon is from 1929, it was played every Halloween in the 50's on Walt Disney's Disneyland television show. No CGI means the graphics look a little primitive now, but on television sets those days the pictures weren't great. This cartoon did it's job and spooked us kids in the 1950's. It had everything - black cats in the graveyard, bats, a screech owl, howling dogs, dancing skeletons (and a bouncing skull) . . . and then a crowing rooster ruins the fun. Do you have memories of the skeleton dance?

Memorial Services Postponed
At a certain point in my life, I began reading the obituaries in my local paper. At first, I read to see which of my friends' parents had died. Now I peruse the obits to see when my friends have died. I've come to terms with officially being classified as "elderly". So I have seen thousands of obits over the decades. And just recently, after 30+ years of reading obituaries, I've noticed a big change in them. Ever since the outbreak of COVID-19 just about every one ends with a common sentence: Memorial To Be Held At Later Date.

James Naismith: The History Behind March Madness
Didn't we all play basketball in school? It used to be mandatory in grade school for girls and boys to participate in P.E., which often included playing a game or two. So it makes sense that the game was invented by a Canadian P.E. teacher named James Naismith a little over 100 years ago. His first equipment was a pretty rudimentary: a soccer ball and two peach baskets closed at the bottom. This was enough to engage his students and keep them indoors during the rainy season. Of course the sport of basketball evolved, and college tournaments - now called March Madness - came along in 1939 when basketball was about 40 years old.
