Wm H Locke passed away on February 4, 1901 in New York United States at 72 years of age. He was born c. 1829. We have no information about Wm's surviving family.

In 1829, in the year that Wm H Locke was born, on March 4th, Andrew Jackson was sworn in as the seventh President of the United States. His wife, Rachel, had died 10 weeks before - Jackson blamed the slurs of his opponents for her illness and death and said "May God Almighty forgive her murderers, I never can."

In 1835, he was only 6 years old when on June 2nd, P. T. Barnum and his "circus" began their first tour of the U.S. He had paid $1,000 for an elderly slave named Joice Heth, who he claimed was 161 years old and a former nurse for George Washington. Touring the northeast of the U.S., he made more than $1,000 per week. Joice died the next year - at about 80 years old.

In 1884, by the time he was 55 years old, on December 6th, the Washington Monument was completed. Building began in 1848 but was stopped because of lack of funds and also due to the Civil War. It would be dedicated in 1885. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest structure in the world.

In 1890, by the time he was 61 years old, on October 9th, in Satory, France, the first fixed-wing, steam powered aircraft flew. "Ader √Čole" flew, uncontrolled, for about 160 ft. at a height of just under 8 inches off the ground.

In 1901, in the year of Wm H Locke's passing, John Pierpont "J. P." Morgan created U.S. Steel. J.P. Morgan was an American banker and financier who dominated U.S. business at this time. He had previously overseen the creation of General Electric, as well as International Harvester and AT&T. He has been referred to as America's greatest banker. U.S. Steel was the first billion dollar company in the world, worth $1.4 billion in 1901.
