Too cute! Little Alida Baruch a few months old, taken shortly before she was deported with her parents to Auschwitz on July 16th, 1942. So sad - let us never forget.

We are the ones who NEED to remember so it will not happen again. If god had remembered her a little earlier, she might still be here.

To ^^ It wasn't Gods fault that Hitler and his group did what they did to the Jewish. It was Satan who planted his evil seed into them. God is Love and Peace and the maker of all mankind. God set Satan lose so we could see what he can do, and yes we need to remember, so it won't happen agan.

... But I thought "God" was absolute power? Created the life and the world we (and Hitler ) live on? Where was God when those very lives he helped "Create".. were being destroyed? Keep your God opinions to yourself. You only speak these words to comfort yourself. It's all fairy tale!

Personally I find that attributing the cause of atrocities to the people who commit them, and the thread that helps when nothing makes sense and there is no reason to hold on for those experience them, that thread I attribute to God and the divine spark of the human will, and maybe even a little bit of sheer luck. Either way I'm sure words of any type served as little solace no matter how well intended.

God gave man and women the freedom to make our own decisions and w/ that are consequences. Yes God could control everything to make it a perfect world but then people would 1 take advantage of him as they do now, and as did Satan when he was an angel in heaven. And 2nd God is saving the perfect world for those who truly believe in him. And I don't think its right for you to bash people who believe in God its our belief and I feel if you do not agree you just keep scrolling

Everyone seems to want to do away with God, until they need Him. All these horrific happenings are the result of SIN that started with Eve tempting Adam with the forbidden fruit. Just as all the bad that happens comes from sin and the Devil. Yes, one day God will remember those children and He will also remember the murderers. He will deal with you and me...with all justly.

I think people need to read the bible and stop spouting nonsense about god doing anything.. the god who told the children of Israel to slaughter people and take their land, except they usually got to keep the young girls, is a made up thing ...

Birkenau was shocking for me because it was so beautiful. Amazingly serene and gorgeous countryside that hid these horrors. The train tracks were so close to the chambers....the platform was not far from the "showers". I was shocked at how close everything was, how you could not avoid the smell, how you could not avoid the sights/sounds. You never forget a trip like that I wish more could experience it.

It had the same effect on me! According to the Nazi plan, by 1950 Europe would be rid of Jews. Auschwitz would be converted into a vacation spot. That's why it was set in such a beautiful area. Yes, we must never, ever forget.

You are right Megan, but sadly Gerry is right, and we have no control over any of it. After the 2nd world war, I seem to remember being taught that we should never forget ,so it would never happen again. It's very hard to understand such evil and cruelty, but I guess we have to accept human nature as it really is, because it has never stopped, we just hear more about it now.

What kind of a feral beast kills an innocent baby? How could so many jump onto the Nazi bandwagon? Were they all so depraved? Or are humans born so, only waiting for the opportunity to do evil?

The world is still trying to answer these questions. I wonder that if after the war, we thought we could prevent this kind of thing happening again, because it was a situation we had never come across before. We thought it was unique, and maybe it was, but we are now ,because of the media, aware that this brutality is worldwide. As usual, the innocent suffer because of the men in power, or the men who want to be in power.

People haven't learned a thing from the horrifying Holocaust. Look at how many, even in our own government, are criticizing Israel for defending itself from terrorists. They couldn't care less if Israel, which really became a state due to the many homeless Jews created by that same Holocaust, ceased to exist.

How dare we forget! So many beautiful innocent babies and thousands of young children, the men and women who were SLAUGHTERED. To forget has and will allow this atrocity to raise it's ugly head over and over. We have to fight to keep this demonic practice from wiping out another generation. It is creeping forward and we (yes we) have allowed it. Why?

While traveling I avoided Auschwitz with horror...I didn't want my aura/personna/essence to breathe the air, walk on the ground, be in the place of heinous horror....one look at this child expresses my sorrow. May she be forever in heaven with God and Paradise for all eternity....

Too sad.....but one has to ask why so many mothers and fathers allowed themselves to be parted from their children, or in some cases to be killed in front of their eyes. True, they were unarmed, but if death is certain or likely, then there is nothing to lose by some resistance, however token. Worse than death in any case is to be parted from your children and see them suffer. I know that I speak from the comfort of 70 years hindsight and, thank God, different times, but the thought stays with me as a question: what would I have done?

Robert Coleman, you insensitive idiot. Those men and women had no idea that death was certain or likely when they were herded up, most of the time in the middle of the night, and separated, men with men, women with women and children with children. If they showed any kind of resistance, they were shot. And not just them, the person on their left and the person on their right. All they were told was that they were going to another working camp. Why would they resist? You really should do some reading before making an insensitive remark like that. It could very well strike the centre of the heart of a concentration camp survivor.

I think what is scary is that my generation (I am 51) has had the opportunity to know and talk to WWII veterans and victims. It is true that if history is forgotten it will be repeated. The people who survived it will all be gone in the not too distant future. It will be up to us and our children, and so on, to remember and pass it down. I think the further we get from it the less impact and believability there will be. People need to keep this horrific part of our history real. It needs to be taught in history classes , we need to tell the stories we've heard. God help us if we don't

So sad. I am glad Uncle Hubert shot the SS bastards when he was liberating the death camps. They allowed the regular German troops to surrender but they told SS troops to take off running, that was better chance than they had given the folks in the camps. They then used the SS for target practice. He is 91 years old now and says that he feels no guilt about shooting them.

It was the sickest, vilest and most egregious act in modern human history. The issue of anti-semitism is once again resurfacing in Europe and the flames of hate against Israel are being stoked by Muslims.

I cannot comprehend any humans allowing the directives of a madman (Hitler) compel the German citizens and military to follow through with such a violent perversion against one race of people.

So sad .. she is in the sunshine ..
I could not imagine babies that young being killed by cruelty. But, now God knew that they were going to be in Heaven with Him. I think the reason why they didn't allow Jewish children to live because they were afraid they would multiply more when they grow older. Reason why most Jews were hated by the Germans [although half of Germany had nothing against the Jews] because it was against their culture to believe in Christ-but I believe Hitler and his Nazis used that just for an excuse. Even teaching it to their children. Never the less it was true. But Hitler and his Nazi troops were against Christ also. Half of the German Christians had nothing against the Jewish. Half of them were against the Nazi party.
I have heard many times Hitler and his Nazis did lie and say they were from a Christian nation and they believed in Christ. But then it turned out, they wanted to murder the Christians also.

Agree with Gerry Roule. Genocide & hatred are still with us. The Nazis aren't the only ones who have committed genocide & the Jews aren't the only race who have suffered. Poor, sweet baby ! So sad !
I agree it was. No child ever deserved to die like they did back in those days because they were Jewish and all that.
Now those children live a peaceful and happy live in Heaven, no longer dealing with ghettos, starvation, deportions, being laughed at, death camps+ gas chambers. And defiantly no race against race.
So glad that evil Nazi leader Hitler is in Hell. And so are the men and women who followed him.
Those people who murdered the Jews were idiots putting their beliefs to the evil Nazi scum leader. And even having their own children get involved into it.
So if people had someone to blame-don't blame God. God had nothing to do with the Holocaust *even though He knew the innocent would face torment, natural disasters and such because of sin in the world*. Blame all the stuff on Hitler and his evil Nazis. I would imagine that if Hitler and his Nazis were murdering the Jews, God would probably give Hitler and his evil scum Nazis His angry wrath-He did in their afterlife.

I was thinking millions of children went in and only 500,000 made it out. The US wouldn't let the kids in .The English took thousands in. Very very sad.

DeDe Blanchette I agree with you! It’s not taught enough. It’s covered as a unit in NYC schools 5th grade curriculum. I go into classrooms in my school and share the story and pictures I have of my lost great grandmother, aunts, uncles and young cousins. But it needs to be taught every year and lessons on kindness, compassion and humanity should also be in every curriculum k-12. Ughh. The world is so messed up!
