If he was anything like me as a child he just got smacked for something. 😂 That will wipe the smile right off your face.🤣

He feels empathy for the fish, hopefully retained his kind heart into adulthood

Three thoughts crossed my mind: He doesn't like to fish, but had to. He doesn't like to eat fish. He doesn't like his picture taken. That's an awful tight jaw for such a little boy. And that pole is down on the ground, not standing up.

People rarely smiled for photos back then. I doubt it had anything to do with his mood.

Me and my sister loved fish....and fishing. In those days, it was food on the table.

The way he's leaning he seems very much to me like a city cousin. The pic is to go home with him for his parents, but he's not used to getting dirty.

He might not have been fishing for fun, maybe it was for survival. Those fish might have to feed a family of 6.

AncientFaces We do catch and release, but still some of the grandkids cry when they see the fish on the hook. Have you ever heard a catfish cry? We don't fish much anymore. Just take bread and fish food to the ponds. I edit this to correct any impression I am against fishing: WE do fish, but not with the grandkids who are acred by it. We eat fish we raise, and we eat storebought fish. I am not anti-fishing! JEEZ....people need to take things a little more lightly! :) The reason we don't fish much anymore is that my husband has a back injury and cannot be in one position for very long. OK?

I fish, and eat them- some of us live a homesteaders life and so we eat what we catch it its in limits. Ppl need to understand that food is food, and not everyone lives near a grocery store

KellieAnne Smith Foreman We also eat fish, fish we catch from our own ponds that we maintain. My comment was about what we do not do that upsets our grandchildren, which was precipitated by the sad look on the boy's face in the photo. I am not judging or condemning anyone. You are reacting to something in your mind, not in what I wrote. Take it easy. :) I have no way of knowing why the boy looked so serious.
