My grandmother Doris was a wonderful woman. She grew up the second born of four siblings. She married Bill right out of High School. Their first child, Donald Lamar, was born with collapsed lungs and passed away shortly after birth. Bill and Doris had three more children. Bill died suddenly at age 33, leaving Doris a single mother of three small children. She taught herself how to drive and got a job doing office work. She raised her children alone in a time it was both uncommon and very difficult for a woman to do. She cared for both her parents as their health declined. She remarried a childhood friend, Earl Riggs, after her children were grown and out of the house. She cared for Earl's aging mother, and buried her second husband in 2000 when he lost his battle with cancer. When I was young we often had picnics in the fields on the farm she lived with her second husband, Earl. She was a great cook. Made the best red velvet cake in the world. She was patient. She was composed. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grand children. She thought Pete O'Toole was very handsome and she liked Dumbledore from Harry Potter. She took art classes after Bill died, and she painted beautiful floral pieces. She liked grandma Moses and The Cat Who books. She was very loved by her family, and she is missed every day.

I'm researching my family's genealogy. On my father's side: Trexler, Phillips, Eagle, Fields My mother's side: Canup, Shinn, Mcduffie, Hoffner I have tested with 23andMe and uploaded to MyHeritage and GEDMatch. I've built a family tree on Family Search and Ancestry.
The Trexlers have been traced back to Hesse Germany with Hans Drechsler in the mid 1500s. Peter Trexler came to America in 1709 and they settled in Pennsylvania. My branch of the Trexlers was brought to Rowan North Carolina by Lawrence Trexler, and that is where the family has remained located.

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. I am so very proud of my hometown. For more information see Kathy - Founder & Content and Community Director
My family began AncientFaces because we believe that unique photos and stories that show who people are/were should be shared with the world.
