You may remember Elsa Lanchester, born in 1902 London, as 1935's "Bride of Frankenstein". But as seen here she was also a glamour girl.

You couldn't find a better shot of her WITHOUT the cigarette?

Lol - nope! It was a sign of the times. Like wearing fur . . . the fashion at the time that is now unacceptable!

It was quite common to smoke. Some of the "Art Deco", smoking accessories are quite pretty.

It's just there are so many beautiful shots of her -- And of course, cigarettes were popular. John Wayne touted menthol cigs good for the throat. Cigs were included in Red Cross packages to GIs during WWII. James Dean smoking caused an entirely new generation (post WWII) to take up the habit, among other things.

www.imdb.com states she was paid 2500 for that role. I didn't realize she was married for so long to Laughton.

Crazy the difference in wages today for entertainers. Even taking into consideration inflation.

I wish more younger folks would watch some of the movies she made when she was young, but I think most remember her only as The Bride of Frankenstein. She was such a wonderful and versatile actor.

She's overlooked in most of her movies. My intro to her was Katie Nana in Mary Poppins. And of course, Bride of F.
