This is feather crown removed from death bed pillow of Claude Watts who died in 1923 at age 16 in Searcy County, Arkansas

I have heard of the legend but don't know what it really meant. I remember my mother saying that when her mother died in our home, the feathers in the pillow formed a crown around her head. Her name was Laura Bell Howland (Watts)(Jewell).

I have three of these, taken from the pillow of my great, great grandmother. My great grandmother lived until I was 21 and she had saved them from her mother's pillow after she died. They are tightly woven little nests of feathers, mostly white. The time period they were found in the pillow was approximately 1923.
