While a bit damaged over the course of the last 120 years, the beauty and dignity still shines. Henry (1843-1916) & Fanny (1848-1928) Johnson from Rhode Island circa 1900. In their lifetimes they witnessed the works of Frederick Douglass & Harriet Tubman, the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil Rights Act of 1866 & 1875, the 15th Amendment, the formation of the NAACP and so much more.

He probably was mixed. If you had African ancestry, it did not matter if you looked white. He would be classified as black.

Lovely photo we are all human at the end of the day. It's just a pity people can't be nicer and kinder to each other no matter what colour they are.
