Actor Joseph Maher (Actor) (Was born Joseph Sylvester Maher) Born December 29, 1933 in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland Died July 17, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA (brain tumor) Height 6' 2" (1.88 m) Joseph Maher was born on December 29, 1933 in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland. He was an actor, known for In & Out (1997), Sister Act (1992) and Mars Attacks! (1996). He died on July 17, 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA. Educated by the Christian Brothers in County Mayo, Ireland. One of 10 children. Became a naturalized U.S. citizen before his death in L.A. Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award three times, all as Best Actor (Featured Role - Play): in 1979 for "Spokesong"; in 1980 for "Night and Day" and in 1986 for a revival of Joe Orton's "Loot". These make him the most nominated actor in that particular category. Born in County Galway, Ireland, the son of a schoolteacher, Maher emigrated to Canada in 1956 and first worked for an oil company. Becoming interested in the theater, he studied acting at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. His first appearance on stage was in a Toronto production of "The Taming of the Shrew". He moved to New York after touring with the Canadian Players for three years. He was awarded the 1977 OBIE Award for Distinguished Performance in a Leading Role for the play, "Savages," off-Broadway in New York City. He was awarded the 1987 Drama Logue Award for Outstanding Performance for "Loot" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California. He was awarded the 1987 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Distinguished Lead Performance for "Loot" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California. He was awarded the 1987 Drama Logue Award for Outstanding Performance for "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" at the Mark Taper Forum Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Personal Quotes I get cast frequently in aristocratic roles because I have a long nose and sound peculiar. He was also in "What the Butler Saw." He was in the remake of "The Out of Towners." He is survived by four sisters, Maureen Hogan of County Galway, Ireland; Bridie Ingham of Bristol, England; Eileen McCarthy of London, and Noreen Armstrong of Bedfordshire, England; and one brother, Thomas Maher of London.

For fifty years I have been a Document Examiner and that is how I earn my living. For over 50 years I have also been a publicist for actors, singers, writers, composers, artists, comedians, and many progressive non-profit organizations. I am a Librettist-Composer of a Broadway musical called, "Nellie Bly" and I am in the process of making small changes to it. In addition, I have written over 100 songs that would be considered "popular music" in the genre of THE AMERICAN SONGBOOK.
My family consists of four branches. The Norwegians and The Italians and the Norwegian-Americans and the Italian Americans.
