Katharine Stark Tyler (1843-1912), possibly?
I acquired an antique photo album filled with cabinet card portraits and I'd love help identifying any of them!

This is the only one out of 29 that gave a clue who it might be. A newspaper clipping was pasted underneath it with the obituary of Mrs. Katharine Stark Tyler, wife of Rev. Charles Mellen Tyler.

The obituary reads, in part: "She was a distinguished musician and from 1885 to 1892 held the chair of music in Syracuse University. She held positions as soloist in All Souls' Church and in the Broadway Tabernacle in New York."
Date & Place: at W.V. Ranger & Co Portraits in Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York United States

Since posting this, I believe that I've confirmed the identity. See and scroll down to "Syracuse University Portrait Collection" where she is honored for being the first woman faculty member of Syracuse University. It is a different portrait and it's a straight on view, but it looks like the same person.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
