Lemuel Jackson Bowden b. 15 Feb 1815 Williamsburg, James City Co., VA;graduated from William & Mary College, Williamsburg, Va; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1838 and commenced practice in Williamsburg; member, State house of delegates 1841-1846; delegate to the Virginia constitutional conventions in 1849 and 1851; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate and srved from 3 Mar 1863, until his death in Washington, DC, on 2 Jan 1865; interment: Historic Congressional Cemetery Wash., DC. Son of William & Mildred Davis Bowden.
