Mary Two Eagles, 1970s
During the summer months, Mary would ride her horse through Custer, SD while holding her little dog and a small portable radio to listen to. Mary would accept tips from Tourists who wanted to take her photograph. She was known to cover her head with a large paper grocery sack and ride off when she was offered no tips! (Super Mellow Horse!)
Date & Place: in Custer, Custer County, South Dakota 57730, United States

Woah what a great story.
I knew Mary Two Eagles well. I lived in Custer during the 70's, I was 11 or so at the time. My parents owned a pizza parlor below the Lariat Lounge bar on mainstreet. I used to bring Mary down to our pizza shop on occasion and my parents would make her a pizza. She also carried a squirtgun and was known to squirt tourists that didnt tip her. I thought she was awesome!!! I have a lot more info on Mary and Custer from the 70's that is very interesting.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her. For more information about what we're building see About AncientFaces. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
