Description:
A photo of the Pigeon Key School class, thought taken 22 December 1923, L-R: Katherine Kyle, Dan Sneed, Ken Kyle, Edna Hines, Edith Carmen (teacher) Anne Kyle, Esther Hines, Mildred Sneed, Peavy boy. This group is also in a DVD video clip 'The Railroad That Went to Sea' (A Ride Down The Keys clip) by Historic Tours of America, however, the movie appears to be reversed, kids saluting flag with 'left' hand. The Kyle children are those of the chief bridge tender of the 7 Mile Bridge, Robert Kyle, his older daughter, Tessie Kyle, (married: Tessie Frentzel) was the first schoolteacher on Marathon in 1928 after quite a few years without a school. Tessie Kyle also grew up on Pigeon Key and had brothers Zollie and Robert.
Date & Place:
at Pigeon Key in Monroe County, Florida United States
