Viking ship replica, 1893
The first Viking ship replica; Viking.

From what I found on the internet, this is a copy of the original Gokstad ship (from approximately 850 CE). It left the harbour of Oslo in April 1893, and arrived in Chicago on the 12th of June, and was an attraction at the Chicago Columbian Exposition. It can now be found in Geneva, Illinois, USA.

From the harbour of Christiania, today: Oslo, Norway. On the back it is dated 14th feb 1893, Xania (Christiania), but the photo is taken in Sandefjord, Norway on the 4th of February 1893.
Date & Place: at Sandefjord in Sandefjord, Vestfold Norge

This is so interesting! I always wondered what it look like with the immigrants in Norway coming over here. My Norwegian immigrants came in the 1850s
Norwegian immigrants to the US in the 1850's did not use viking ships, that is for sure. They came on regular ships from that era.

Oh I know, but it kind a give me an idea of what it look like with that big ship in the background sitting in the icy water

My interesting story about my family's immigration was a hand written account that they left. The letter stated that they traveled 3 miles over ice to get to the ship on the sled with horses with their belongings.

The picture is not from Kristiania/Oslo, but is taken at the day of sea launch at the Framnes ship yard in Sandefjord, Vestfold.
