Virgil's parents were Daniel Barton Robbins, 1873-1957, and Mary Ellen Johnson, 1878-1954. He had siblings Iva, Thomas, Maud, Fany (Fern), and Homer. He maried Opal Anna Sallee, 1914-2012, on July 12 1934 in Hartman, Prowers Colorado. They had children Shirley Ann, 1936-2002, and Sharon Jean, 1942-1990. In the 1920 census, Virgil was 8 years old and living in Hartman Colorado with his family - Daniel, Mary, Thomas, Maud, and Verny. He was going to school and his father was a laborer in an alfalfa mill. Brother Thomas, age 17, was listed as a laborer on a farm. In the 1930 census, Virgil was 17 and still living in Hartman Colorado with his family. In the household were parents Daniel and Mary and younger brother Homer. Virgil was in school. Father Daniel was a farmer and mother Mary was a laundress at home. In the 1940 census, Virgil was 28 and married. He and wife Opal, age 26, were living in Hartman CO and renting their home. Daughter Shirley was age 4. Virgil was a laborer in an alfalfa mill and wife Opal was a telephone operator in the telephone office.

We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US.
