Walter Chatterton’s (possibly) immigration to New Zealand chest
Walter Chatterton (1870-1955)‘s travel box possibly, because Walter, his parents and siblings moved to New Plymouth in the early to mid 1870s, so we would have been very young, so it could even be his father’s (Arthur Chatterton) or someone in his family? There is a lot of old writing on the Yellow print Page under the Reid of the box, it’s clearly from the Grimsby area in Lincolnshire, maybe from a port? It says things about the cost of taking animals onboard and things like that. I found this box in the bottom back corner of my grandfather’s museum/shed, it had spider webs and was quite dirty, so I cleaned it up a bit. If anyone knows anything at all about this box or the Chatterton family please do let me know! Walter is my great-great-grandfather. My email address is [contact link]
