Elizabeth Burchstead Was Born in Massachusetts 1836.The daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Wales) Burchstead. Elizabeth's Father Was Nick Named Job After His Maternal Grandfather Job Smith. The Family Was Strong in Their Christian Faith and Attended Church Regularly. In a Special Celebration of Their Faith and A New Arrival To The Family,A Baby Boy, David, The Entire Family Children Were Baptised on June Fourth Eighteen-Forty Three,Except The Baby David,Of Whom Would Not Be Baptised Until The Following Year on July Fourteenth Eighteen-Forty Four.Elizabeth's Siblings Consisted of Four Brothers and Three Sisters. In Eighteen-Fifty Five,Elizabeth Married Robert Buffum Who Was A Strong Supporter of The Abolitionist Movement.He Was Involved With John Brown and The Anti-Slavery Crusades.Elizabeth and Robert Were Married in Kentucky.On January Second,Eighteen-Fifty Seven,Their First Child,Elizabeth,Was Born.Unfortunately,The Baby Girl Only Lived Nine Days.Robert and Elizabeth Soon After Moved To Ohio,Where on July Third, Eighteen-Sixty,Their Second Child,Nellie Frances Was Born.The Following Year Brought The Beginning of The Civil War.Robert Enlisted on Sept Seventh,Eighteen- Sixty One.He Was To Eventually Volunteer For The Andrews Raiders That Became Famous As "The Great Locomotive Chase" Robert Was The Third Recipient of The Medal of Honor and Was Promoted From Private To Second Leutenent.He Was Discharged 1864.Robert and Elizabeth in The Meantime Had Another Child,Annie Laurie,Born January Twenty Seventh,Eighteen-Sixty Two in Massachusetts. After Robert's Discharge From His Military Service, Their Fourth and Last Child ,Carrie Tamoson Was Born At Salem,Massachustts Eighteen-Sixty Five.After The Death of Robert on July 20,Eighteen-Seventy one,Elizabeth Was Married to Nahum Harden. Nahum Harden Died in Abington,Massachusetts, Eighteen-Seventy Nine.

Robert Buffum Served in The Civil War From Sep 1861 Thru 1864.He Served in Company H,21 Ohio Infantry.Was Among The Men Who Participated in The Mitchell Raid.Became a Prisoner at The Old Fulton County Jail along with Five Other Men From The Winter of 1862 Until March 17,!863 When Release Occurred.Robert Buffum,Along with The Five Other Soldiers,Were Then Sent To Washington,D.C. To Be Interviewed By The Secretary of War,Edwin M. Stanton,Of Whom,Presented Them With The New Authorized MEDAL of HONOR and $100.00 Dollars Each.They Were Also Granted Furloughs to Visit Their Families At Home.Robert Buffum Had His Wife,Sarah "Elizabeth" (Burchstead) Buffum and Two Children,Nellie and Annie,Awaiting Him. Robert Buffum Was Promoted to 2nd Lieut. and Resigned in May of 1864.After The Assasination of President Abraham Lincoln,Robert Buffum's Mental and Physical Health Began to Suffer.He Became a Problem Drinker and Had Developed Mental Problems.In a State Mental Hospital of Auburn, New York, on The 20th of July,1871,Robert Buffum Died.
