Jessy Hall was my great grandfather. He was born in Hamilton, Co. FL. in 1821. His mother is unknown but family say her name given name was Elizabeth. She might not have been married at the time of Jessy's birth either unmarried, or divorced. There is an Elizabeth Lankford in Hamilton, Co. FL. who married a William Hall in 1828 who I strongly think is his mother as there is one family rumor that after his mother married a Mr. Hall Jessy took his name as his own. Jess was in Clinch, Co. in 1859/60 but I have been unable to find him till his name is on a 1860 roll of volunteers to go to Florida to fight in the 1858 Indian War. He served about six months and on his discharged he was paid to travel 300 miles back to his inductions base. I think he was sent to around Tampa, FL. There is a complete description of him as well as he had a horse, gun and saddle. In 1860, Jessy traded a farm in Clench, Co. where he moved it is assumed with his wilfe Jane Brown. I am unable to find our how he came to own the farm he traded. He spent his life with his wife Jane in Clench, Co. and sold and bought several farms. About 1883 Jessy left his wife in Georiga and took his daughter and one son to Washington, Co. FL. where he lived for about 1887 when he returned he and his wife had another child who was several months premature and blind. Jane either died during childbirth or shortly after and the baby was cared for by his older sisters and sister in laws. Jessy sold this farm and bought another one and lived there till he died in 1898. While in Florida he owned a sugar mill and made syrup. There is a baby listed as his son living with him, his daughter Elizabeth and son Enoch. Some folks told me this baby was the child born to him and Jane that was premature and blind and others tod me he was Elizabeth' baby and was the reason Jessy took her to FLorida She later married Elisha Moore but I do not have any info on them except Elisha Moor was an administrator on Jessy's estate. Jessy was a small man only 5' 3" tall and was a jockey for a Mr. Thomlinson who own a large ranch and was good friends with Jessy and even gave a stallion to one of Jessy's daughters. Not much is know about Jessy's wife other that her name was Jane Brown and she had a sister named Victoria who married a Mr. Henderson and lived in Valdosta. Victoria had a son who was called Cousin Brown. Nothing is know about who his father was. He did server in the U.S. Army but do not know what name he served under. Jessy and Jane are buried at Bethany Church in the Arbia cemetery. Photo of Jessy Hall Jessy Hall
