    Anthony Peter Iaconetti was born to Elizabeth (Isabella) Martucci and John Iaconetti in Manhattan's Little Italy District of upper Manhattan (East Harlem.) He served in the USMC during WWII as was assigned to the 28th Regiment, US 5th Marines. His Company was assigned to take Mt. Suribaci on the Japanese Island of Iwo Jima and provided suppressing fire as his fellow Marines raised the American Flag on that island. He was one of 27 Marines who made it down from the top of that volcano and had a signed photograph by Joe Rosenthal, the photographer who took that famous picture of the flag raising. He returned to New York after the war and lived in Brooklyn until moving to Las Vegas after his retirement.
