  • Personal Life & Family

Clara, daughter of Peter Bambach and Christina Hemmert, immigrated to the United States in 1911, traveling from Hamburg, Germany on the SS President Lincoln. She had three sisters. She was married by a Justice of the Peace to her husband Joseph. Just over a year later their first child Frances was born while they were living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Not long after that, they moved to Capac (St. Clair County), Michigan, where AnnaBell, their second child, was born in 1919. At the behest of a relative of Joseph, the family then moved to the Hyde Park neighborhood of St. Louis City, Missouri, settling in a three room, second floor flat at the rear of 1411 Salisbury. (Ironically, Joseph's relative and that relative's family then moved back to Ohio.) Clara then concentrated on doing an excellent job in raising their wonderful daughters and maintaining a neat and cozy home while Joseph worked as a janitor at Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, just a block away from their residence. Clara was a member of the Altar Society and the Third Order of St. Francis.
