Clifford Donald Aaby was born to Scandinavian immigrant parents, Asmund Aaby (1880-1957) and Wilhelmina Aaby (1898-1919), on July 14, 1910, in Chisholm, Minnesota, USA. He was the second oldest of four siblings, including Ernest Hilding Aaby (1909-1993), Helen Leona Wilhelmina Aaby (1911-2000), and Carrie Aaby (born 1913). On September 11, 1910, he was baptized at the First (Immanuel) Lutheran Church in Hibbing, St. Louis, Minnesota, USA. In 1940, Clifford moved to Hibbing, St. Louis, Minnesota, USA. Two years later, at the age of 32, he enlisted in the US Military and trained in Fort Snelling, Minnesota. After his military service, Clifford made Seattle, Washington, USA his home. He died on April 11, 1975, in King, Washington, USA.

Clifford Aaby enlisted in the military on August 26, 1942, in Fort Snelling, Minnesota, at the age of 30. He registered for the draft on October 16, 1940, while residing in Hibbing, St. Louis, Minnesota, and working for John Smoltz Contractor. During his military service, Clifford served in the Branch Immaterial Warrant Officers, USA. He began his military career as a Private, Selectee (Enlisted Men) and served for the duration of the war or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law. Clifford stood at 6'1" and weighed 210 pounds. He had a dark complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. Aswued Aaby was his next of kin.

Clifford worked as a foreman in the extraction of minerals. In 1940, he was employed by John Smoltz Contractor.
