Edward Harry Morkunas was born on Mary 28, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois to parents Mike and Mary Morkunas. He had older brothers Mike and Bruno Morkunas. He registered for the WWII draft on October 16, 1940, in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, when he was 22 years old. At that time, he was employed at the Neo Gravure Co of Chicago. Edward then enlisted in the US Army on June 9, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, just a few months before the US entered World War II. Edward started his military service as a Private, Selectee (enlisted Men). As a member of the US Army, Edward was involved in military operations during World War II. He was promoted to the rank of Private First Class (Pfc) and served until October 31, 1945. After serving for more than four years, he was honorably discharged from the Army.
