Grew up as an only child in a rare time of freedom on a small farm. His parents ran a small movie theater in Estonia before the second World War. Elmo was very intelligent with a photographic memory, claiming to remember back to about 6 months of age. Was drafted into the local home guard (not sure what they were called) and drove around Estonia with his father on a big truck with a work crew fixing bridges, if the bridge didn't break when they drove over it then it was good, if not they fixed it. After the Russians invaded the whole family wound up on a deportation list for Siberia, they fled Estonia and traveled to Germany in a truck with stolen Germain military plates and after a brief stint in the army ended up in a displaced persons camp. Elmo emigrated to Canada where his first job was ditch digging, then moved to Yellowknife to be a gold miner. Attended Queens University to get an Engineering degree and did work related to the Avrow Arrow and the heating/cooling system for Toronto's Science Center. Was self employed as a film historian specialized in WWI and WWII.
