  • Obituary

This obituary for my great grandfather, George Edward Scobell, was printed11 Oct 1909 in "The Citizen Republican" on page 10, column 2. Transcription: "The funeral of Mr. George E Scobell was held in the M. E. church last Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Chas. Wilcox. Mrs. Holbert of Presho, sister of the deceased, was unable to come on account of the illness of her daughter, and Mrs. Scobell's mother was sick at Tabor and was unable to be present. Mr. Scobell's eldest son from Iowa, his daughter, Mrs. MacLinn [McLinn] from Wagner, and his nephew, John Holbert from Presho, were the only friends from away who were present. Mr. Scobell was born in Canada in June 1860, and was therefore 49 years and 4 months old at the time of his death. When a small child he moved with his parents to Michigan where his early life was spent. He later moved to Iowa where for some years he operated a steam laundry at Lemars. About sixteen years ago he moved to Hutchinson county, SD, purchasing a farm 12 miles northwest of Scotland. He was a man of strict honor and integrity, and took an active part in promoting the social and religious interests of the community in which he lived. He also took an interest in political matters and was at one time a member of the legislature from Hutchinson county. In his death the community loses a valuable citizen, and the family a devoted husband and father."

L-R
Mark Scobell, Myrtle Scobell and George Edward Scobell, Jr. This was not ID'd so it's my best guess at this time.

I think these are Scobell kids, Mark, Myrtle and George Edward Jr.. Mark was the son of George Edward Scobell and his 2nd wife Margaret Elizabeth McLin. Myrtle and George Edward Jr. were his sons by his first wife Bertha Sallach.
